Analysis and interpretation of blockchain and crypto-asset evidence.
Understanding blockchain evidence
Blockchain records can provide a traceable history of transactions and activity recorded on a network. In a legal or investigative context, those records may help explain the movement of crypto-assets, the timing and sequence of transactions, and relationships between blockchain addresses.
Depending on the instruction, work may include reviewing transaction records, analysing flows between addresses, interpreting on-chain activity and presenting technical findings in a form that can be understood by lawyers, courts and other decision-makers.
Analysis in context
Blockchain data must be interpreted carefully and in context. A transaction record can show activity between addresses, but it does not, by itself, establish the real-world identity of an address holder, who controlled a wallet at a particular time, or the purpose or intent behind a transaction. Such questions may require other evidence and corroboration.
Clear explanation of findings and limitations
Our approach is to explain the records examined, the analytical steps taken, the findings that can be supported by the available evidence and any uncertainties or limitations. Conclusions should not go beyond what the evidence reasonably supports.
Support for legal proceedings
Blockchain and crypto-asset evidence may arise in disputes or investigations involving alleged fraud, asset tracing, disputed transactions or other questions about digital assets. The scope of work is agreed according to the issues in the case and the material available.
